Idhu dhaan da Dallas !!
The anouncement "Ladies and Gentleman, We've arrived at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport and we'd like to be first to welcome you to Dallas ....." was music to my ears. Dallas Rocks and to think I hated it for four whole years. I had an unexpected change of heart when I left for Burlington and the day I returned to Dallas, I really felt I've finally arrived to a place I belong. It wouldn't be too long a shot to say that it was one of the factors in taking up the new job.
I remember cribbing not so long ago about how boring Dallas is, how there isn't a major social scene going on etc. But when I actually saw the grass on the other side - an existence in a city that was almost rustic inspite of having the world's largest tech company in their city -with no channel for any form, Indian or otherwise, kind of entertainment - food / cinema / shopping/culture , I literally came, But a 25 year old needs a life beyond just beautiful mountains, exotic scenaryand 6 months of knee-deep snow.
I missed the cosmopolitan, cross-cultral experience. Besides, Dallas in comparison to several other cities in the U.S with its huge indian population, tons of Indian restaurants, theatres and always has something to offer for the homesick Indian. And if I may add, it's also got more young people than Burlington, which makes it all the more interesting. More than anything, it's great to be in a city you connect with and are extremely familiar around.
As far as living goes right now, for once I don't wish I was someplace else professionally or geographically (well, with the exception of Madras). I love the area I live in, I love my apartment and everything in between. Sure, like everybody else's, my life isn't perfect, but if it were a person I'd give it a big hug.
